Southport Coast Links Championship
Welcome to The Inaugural South Wales Links Championship .
The inaugural South Wales Coast Links Championship took place from 27th-30th March 2017 over 4 of the top 8 courses in Wales
The full field of 72 (less late withdrawals) would take on Pyle & Kenfig, Ashburnham, Pennard with the Top 36 after Day 3 contesting Final at Royal Porthcawl, with remaining 36 playing Pennard
First day at Pyle & Kenfig the weather was sunny with a strong westerly wind, I have to be honest and say the course was not in the condition we would expect from a championship course, and this did not help with the greens being recent hollow tined, That said the scores were still very good with Sitwell member Alan Heard winning the day on 41 points

Morning of Day 2 at Ashburnham was overcast with forecast of rain, we were very lucky only to have a vert short rain shower just after midday. The course was set up superbly and the greens were outstanding for so earlier in the season, big thank you to Damion and his team for all the hard work they put in preparing the course. The scoring was much higher than day one with Pontypool Member Michael Price 44 Points taking the spoils, this was 19 points more than his day 1 score, like to know who gave him a lesson Monday night

Final day to qualify for Royal Porthcawl was played at "Links in the Sky" Pennard Golf Club, after two very good days weather wise this was a testing day, after a very calm morning we had a 15 minute fog delay in the afternoon, first time this had happened in a Sean Coyle Golf Event, this was then followed by heavy rain, the scores that the players produced in such testing conditions were outstanding with Maidenhead's David Schofield 38 Points edging out a number of 37 Points

Final day at Royal Porthcawl saw 10 players within 6 shots of the Joint leaders Graham Hinchcliffe & Michael Price, the weather was perfect for golf and course set up was fantastic, well done to Michael and his Staff. The scoring in the final was outstanding with the lead changing several times during the final 4 groups making it a very exciting finish. Manhesh Mani best of the Day 42 Points in the 4th group from the end looked for a while that he would take the Overall, but Good scores kept coming in and a fantastic 40 points from Graham Strange in the penultimate Group gave him the Championship on 142 Points, a fantastic total for 4 days over very testing courses.
I hope to see Graham and many of the field back in 2018 (26th-30th March) in what promises to be a great week.
